Barrow-in-Furness

Reptile Translocation

Naturally Wild undertook detailed survey and assessments identifying a population of Common Lizard and Slow Worm as being present on site.

Extensive additional surveys on numerous sites in and around the Barrow area identified habitats which were suitable to receive reptiles for the Waterfront site. Other potential sites were enhanced and will be suitable to receive further reptiles at a future time

Reptiles from the main site were captured and moved (translocated) to the receptor sites during suitable conditions in 2007 and again in 2008.

Following successful capture periods each site was subject to detailed destructive searches prior to being deemed clear of reptiles and the site being handed over to the contractor

As part of the overall project NW staff also completed Invertebrate, Barn Owl and Bat surveys and assessments.
