  • PDF

The Naturally Wild team have worked on the Hub project  from the very beginning of this ambitious and high profile project. Initially undertaking Phase 1 surveys and scoping risk assessments through to full protected species surveys including a significant amount of work on bat activity and the impact of lighting upon bats in the surrounding area and ending with input into the BREEAM element of the project.

We are proud to have been involved in the scheme.

More recently The Hub won a number of awards which the whole team can be proud of and can give themselves a massive pat on the back after winning a magnificent three awards at the 2011 North East Constructing Excellence Awards.

These included

  • The Legacy Award – sustainability
  • Achiever of the year
  • Project of the year

This has been viewed as a totally unique project providing a sustainable, innovative world class facility, designed and developed in conjunction with local young people. It provides access to a unique range of cultural, leisure, sporting, recreational and educational facilities all housed within a WOW factor building and setting which is in harmony with its rural location. The project have worked hard on ensuring The Hub is sustainable for the future, and now the hard work has paid off.  The judges had a challenging task in selecting a winner and many factors were considered, including, technical achievement, innovation, design, teamwork, health and safety, quality, programme, cost and application of best practice. The entries were judged on the basis of the quality and content, the judges' individual knowledge of projects, site visits and various other methods.

Victoria Park London

Naturally Wild are proud to have been a small part of this ambitious project and have undertaken general ecological surveys and tree assessments within the park as part of the renovation and improvements currently in progress. Additional detailed bat surveys have been completed on Burdett-Coutts Memorial Fountain and in the surrounding area. Bat surveys were undertaken under Graeme Skinners bat licence.

The park was opened in 1845, after Queen Victoria received a petition of 30,000 signatures from eastenders requesting a park in the area. It is widely known as the ‘people’s park’, Victoria Park hosts a number of music and rock festivals and has seen a wide range of public speaking spectacles, campaigning and events in its long history. It is still hugely popular today - 84% of people asked supported the plans for the planned improvements and the local council's visitor analysis study showed the park can expect over 7.5 million visits a year. Now, with the 2012 Olympic Games just around the corner, Victoria Park will have the opportunity to attract more visitors than ever and having been awarded various levels of funding including from the Lottery, various improvements are currently being implemented.

The Lottery funding will go towards restoring the park’s four most well known features: the Burdett-Coutts Fountain; the Chinese Pagoda; the Dogs of Alcibiades; and the Old English Garden. There will be new volunteering and training opportunities including the chance to learn horticultural and conservation skills.

Dauntsey Embankment a rail infrastructure project

  • PDF

Initially Naturally Wild Consultants were commissioned to undertake a phase 1/Scoping survey in April 2010. It quickly became evident that the site was home to a number of protected species including Badgers, Great Crested Newts, Grass Snakes, Common Lizards and Slow Worms.

We quickly implemented an emergency plan involving extensive terrestrial and aquatic surveys to establish which species would require licence application and to use our skills to successfully apply for an EPSL.
