South Africa March 2010
In March 2010 Graeme Skinner spent time in Oudtshoorn and De Hoop Reserve in the Western Cape of South Africa.
Graeme met up with herpetologist, photographer and renowned author Dr Tony Phelps who he has known for many years and is now based in South Africa.
Dr Phelps now runs the Cape Reptile Institute and Graeme was able to work alongside him and to gain an insight into some of the long-term studies taking place in South Africa
During the visit a number of species were targeted including Cape Cobra Naja nivea , Puff Adder Bitis arietans and Boomslang Dispholidus typus amongst others with scale clipping and blood being obtained for DNA analysis and venom extracted for research purposes.
Graeme hopes to be able to return to the near in the future and to assist in using radio telemetry for tracking the movement of snakes.
