Mammal Society Symposium
The theme was Ecological Impact Assessment and Mitigation for mammals.
NWC attended the Mammal Society Autumn symposium in November 2007 at the Zoological Society London (London Zoo).
The theme was Ecological Impact Assessment and Mitigation for mammals, covering a broad range of issues through informative seminars by some of the country’s most respected mammal experts. The speakers included Rob Strachan, Paul Chanin, Penny Lewns and Michael Woods, and the event was attended by representatives from many of the UK’s Wildlife Trusts, conservation organisations, government agencies and reputable consultancy firms.
The Symposium gave us all an insight into best practice and thinking outside the box when it comes to mammal mitigation stratagem, and explored a number of case studies where certain methods have proved more successful than others.
Species including dormice, otters, badgers, red squirrels, bats and water voles. While the focus was on these European Protected Species, other mammals were also considered, such as deer and UKBAP species.
The event offered a superb array of expertise and current thinking, supported by valuable data.
